Me in my studio, 9/8/24
Paula A. Prager Long Beach, CA Age 79
What keeps you excited in the studio? Knowing that I on a continuing journey of creativity.
Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed? My trajectory started out at 15 years old as a watercolorist and I gradually switched to acrylics, using my watercolor background as a basis for my work.
What role do you think the artist has in today’s society? Art tells a story. And every artist has a right to tell their own story. When we are born of a time, we show the qualities of that time.
What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist? Keep working. Inspiration is all around us. Take the time to absorb it. Color is an energy – use it.
Does age matter in art? Why or why not? No. Although, I know that art trends with the times, one must not lose sight of their own contribution.
What can we look forward to from you next? I also am a fused glass artist, so I go back and forth. But my style in glass is the same as my style in painting. There is a direct connection to both endeavors. I always get new ideas from reading poetry – Langston Hughes is my muse!
Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life? I now have the time to totally commit to what I love. I do not need confirmation or affirmation from anyone about the work I do. I know my own value.
