Tamara Tolkin CA Age 64

What keeps you excited in the studio? having all my mediums in one space and to know where they are that give me the freedom and the time to keep going.

Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed? When your over 60, that is a big question and probably a longer answer, I’m not as shy as I once was and I definitely have more confidence.

What role do you think the artist has in today’s society? Just be as real as you can be. Make art because you don’t know how not to.

What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist? Read “The Creative Act of Being” by Rick Ruben. Don’t be shy, love what you make, and remember to stop once in a while to eat and pee.

Does age matter in art? Why or why not? Absolutely, not that it makes it better, but with age comes the experience of life, wisdom, practice, experiments and some failures.

What can we look forward to from you next? wow, how am I going to process my art after grief.

Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life? Don’t judge yourself too much, and respect the Gallery and the rules they ask. Being on both sides (Being and artist and having a gallery)seeing the artist disrespect the venue that was disappointing.
