What's actually hard about being an artist at this point? Being available for themselves.

Someone just turned 50 and wants to start making art—what do they tell them? Let's do this. Let's play!!!

Do they try to keep up with what matters in the art world? Exploring their own "bucket list." They need a bigger bucket.

What do artists their age bring to the table that younger artists don't? Oh, the time they wasted... So they can share and help you get artist see value in trying something and not skipping ahead with AI and false experiences.

What are they working on next? Destination Art Travel: grown up Field Trips!!!

What keeps them going when everything feels impossible? You. Their art community.

What do they wish they'd known when they were younger? Follow your gut instincts. Cheap tools for learning are okay. Invest when you are prepared to master it. Be real.

The best is now!

Their artwork represents their past and their present. It touches on their heritage, their friends, their family, their experiences. They find that true creativity changes as quickly as the weather changes. Every opportunity to learn, every opportunity to meet people, every opportunity to travel, every possibility to connect with nature, animals, children, theater, music and the whole world around us all has influence on what they produce. From miniatures to murals in any medium. It is all an expression of who they are.

Suzanne Gibson is a California Impressionist Artist born in Northern England. They've lived in Southern California for over 40 years, and reside with their husband and 3 children in the South Bay. As an artist and designer, Suzanne has their BA in Interior Design and has been teaching art for over 20 years to students ranging from 3 years to 101.

For Local Community Art Programs, Zoom-Studio, and in the classroom, Suzanne continues to develop art projects, programs and experiences to all levels. Their studio offers local studio and PleinAir workshops at Erik's Way and the California Irish Arts center, both located in the South Bay. In 2025, Suzanne was a Youth Mentorship Faculty Ambassador at the Plein Air Convention and Expo.

They continue to explore throughout California and beyond to paint outdoors. Local Beach & Coastal Views, Gardens, and Mountains. They add to their list of favorite locations with every PleinAir painting they make. Vast Blue Skies with Fabulous Clouds. Scenic Farmland and rolls of Hay. Antiques and Old Structures... and Trees! Lots of Trees! England, Ireland, France, Alaska and Utah are recent additions to this growing list.

At 50+, they're creating with new energy and focus. It's more self-dedicated—not about what others expect from them. They're exploring their own "bucket list." They need a bigger bucket.
